Interim Vice President for University Advancement and External Relations, Executive Director, Governmental Relations at Savannah State University

LeAndrea Mikell is the Executive Director for Governmental Relations and Community Engagement at Savannah State University. In this role, she is responsible for directing the university’s governmental affairs strategy and she works to cultivate strategic partnerships that support the university’s economic development and community engagement efforts.

Mikell is active with a number of community organizations including the United Way of the Coastal Empire and the Gulfstream Student Leadership Program. In addition, Mikell serves on the boards of directors for Leadership Savannah, Employability, Chatham Savannah Citizens Advocacy, Future Minds Literacy and Adult Education, and Union Mission and was the first African American to serve as President of the Georgia Jaycees. Mikell also serves as Immediate Past Chairman for both the Greater Savannah International Alliance and the Ambassadors Council for the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mikell has been recognized as the Ambassador of the Year in 2017 by the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, a GenerationNEXT Rising Star of Business in 2018 by Business in Savannah/Savannah Morning News, Jaycee of the Year in 2020 by the Georgia Jaycees, as a member of the New Guard in 2021 by Savannah Magazine and she was included in Georgia Trend’s Top 40 under 40 list in 2022. Mikell is also a graduate of Leadership Savannah, class of 2021 and a graduate of Leadership Georgia Class of 2023.
